Summer Break, Weeks 5 and 6

We are officially more than half way through the girls' summer break!  Seems like it just started.

Also, I officially changed my blog title (web address is still the same, though).  And I created a header but I'm still working on it.  I was just playing around and ran out of time.  It's a work in progress.  On to my weekly recap.

Week 5 - (The week before the one that just ended) the girls had soccer camp.  It was just a half day camp, so my neighbor, whose kids were also in the camp (her daughter was in the same one as the girls and her son was in a different one at the same location), picked them up for me and then they had their regular babysitter in the afternoons. In exchange, I took her kids in the mornings, except for the first day because she wanted to get them all signed in and what-not and the last day because Paul needed his car back (I had traded with him to accomadate the extra kids).  I didn't get any pictures because I just dropped them off and went to work.

On Thursday evening Paul and the girls' friend's Dad took all the kids camping until Saturday.  That means that on Friday morning I was able to just get up and get ready for work and leave without having to worry about anyone else.  And then I had a nice quite house and got to work on some projects alone.  Yay.

Week 6 - Paul's parents picked them up on Sunday and took them to Crescent Bar until Wednesday. Thursday we had a new babysitter and Paul had Friday off.  They went shoe shopping and out to lunch at the RAM and otherwise just hung out at home and played with friends, I think. Then yesterday the girls and I went to Great Wolf Lodge with their Girl Scout troop as their special outing with their cookie money, so Paul had most of the weekend to himself.
(We spent the night and got home today).

This was our first time going in the summer so they got to go on the rope course and loved it!

Great Wolf  Lodge was really fun but man, I'm so sick of packing and unpacking!  First Mexico, then their camping trip then Crescent Bar and Great Wolf Lodge.  Ugh.  And in a few more weeks Paul and the girls will be going to Crescent Bar again (I have to work) so I'll have to pack for them one more time.

What's Up Wednesday

Time for another round of What's Up Wednesday, hosted by Shay, Mel and Sheaffer.

What we're eating -
I'm currently on another merry-go-round of some days really healthy some days not so healthy.  I'm chaperoning the girls' Girl Scout troop's trip to Great Wolf Lodge this weekend so I'll do my best to bring some healthy snacks along but I hoping to really get back on track come Monday.

What I’m reminiscing about – This week Ken Griffey, Jr. was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame, so I’ve been reminiscing about the Mariner’s magical ’95 season.  There's an iconic photo but I don't want to post it for copyright reasons so just Google!

What I’m loving – that this summer hasn’t been as hot as the last several.  We don’t have A/C and the last several summers have been brutal (although we did finally get a window unit for our bedroom last summer so that helped).

What I’m dreading – chaotic school mornings starting in 35 days.

What I’m working on – A new look and title for this here blog.  I've been reading a little about how to create a blog header but I just haven't had the time.

What I’m excited about – We just booked our cruise for next July with a bunch of friends (and the girls).  It’s going to be awesome.

What I’m watching/reading – The Bachelorette of course, and I'm currently reading Whole30 and Where’d You Go, Bernadette?

What I’m listening to – I’m digging Justin Timberlake’s new song, “Can’t Stop the Feeling”.  And having recently read Valerie Bertineli's book, Losing It: And Gaining my Life Back One Pound at a Time and having just gone to Cabo Wabo in Cabo San Lucas, I've been really nostalgic for Van Halen (both David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar versions).

What I'm doing this weekend - Chaperoning the girls' Girl Scout troop's trip to Great Wolf Lodge.

What I'm looking forward to next month - The start of the school year.  Even though I'm dreading the chaotic mornings, I'm still excited because the girls will be attending the brand new school in our neighborhood which is way closer and it will just be nice to get back into our normal routine and I also love not having to stress about childcare.

Office Space

Today I am linking up with Kelly's Korner again for Every Day Real Life Home Tours and today is all about home offices.

As you may recall, we recently gave up our office/guest room to give the girls separate bedrooms. What was our office is now Olivia's room.  So now we have just a small little office space in our loft/bonus room.  And like with most projects, I haven't had time to fix it up the way I'd like.  Here's what it looks like now:

And this is the look I'm eventually going for:

but with a ladder-type bookshelf next to it and a shelf or two above.

Thanks for stopping by!

Summer Break, Week 4: Vacation in Cabo San Lucas

Nothing much happened in week 3, but last week was our vacation to Cabo San Lucas!  We had so much fun!  Here's a quick rundown of our week.

We got up at 3:00 AM on Saturday the 9th and the girls actually got right up with no hesitation.  They were so excited.  Our flight left at 6:45, we had a quick stop in San Diego and then were in Cabo around 2:00 PM Cabo time.  We checked in, got settled in our room and then Paul's sister stayed with the girls while he and I and his parents went grocery shopping at Costco and Walmart.  I think we went swimming that evening but I can't remember.  I know we were all exhausted!

Sunday, our first full day, we spent the whole day by the pool.  We ordered fish tacos and quesadillas poolside for lunch (and 2 for 1 drinks!).  It was nice.

Monday we drove to Santa Maria beach and did some snorkeling.  The rest of the day was spent by the pool.

Tuesday we swam with the dolphins!  That was so cool and the girls loved it.  The rest of the day was spent by the pool and in the evening there was a party with free appetizers and mango margaritas and a mariachi band.

Wednesday we went to town and had lunch at Cabo Wabo.  This was a big bucket list item for me but no one was that impressed.  It is probably a really cool night spot, but for lunch we could have done much better at one of the little eateries along the marina and for a lot less money.  But I really wanted to see the place so I'm glad we went.

After lunch we hung out at another beach right downtown, then Paul and I had a date night and went to dinner at the resort's finest restaurant.

Thursday was another hang by the pool day, but I did get a massage and a pedicure at the spa.  That evening we did a sunset dinner cruise.

And after the cruise while walking back to our car the girls had a photo op with an iguana.  Almost as cool as the dolphins.

Friday was another day of lounging by the pool, plus packing to go home, and Saturday we checked out at 10:00 AM, and had just enough time to go to a nice breakfast buffet before the shuttle came to take us to the airport.

The requisite couple selfie

Not a real Starbucks, but the resort's coffee shop "proudly serves Starbucks" (you can barely see the sign in the upper right).  Works for me.

Vacation Bucket List

So we are heading to Cabo San Lucas tomorrow and I could not be more excited.  I have a list of things I want to do so I thought it would be fun to post a bucket list and then see how many of the items I actually check off because some of the things are pretty much a given ("have a drink at the swim-up bar") and some will require real effort ("watch the sunrise"). So here it is:
  • Have a drink at the swim-up bar.  I've never been to a place with a swim-up bar before!
  • Watch a sunrise.  It will be very hard to get up early enough but I'm going to try just once.
  • Watch a sunset.  This will be easy, obviously.
  • Snorkle
  • Have a date night (maybe 2!) with Paul (his parents are going too so they can watch the girls)
  • Swim with the dolphins.
  • Swim in each of the 7 pools at the resort.  Yes, 7.
  • Eat at Cabo Wabo.  Or at least walk by, take a picture and maybe go inside and by a keychain.
  • Drink one of the free Mango Margaritas at the resort.  They do this one night per week, and free food.
  • Take a walk on the beach.  Duh.

The Girls' Bedrooms

Today I'm once again linking up with Kelly's Korner for another home tours post, this time kids' bedrooms.  I actually just did a similar post a few months ago when we moved Olivia into her own room so I'm just going to recycle some of that material.

So this is Olivia's new bedroom.  It used to be our guest room/office.  She chose this sea green color and then we found some cool tie-dye bedding at Kohl's.

We are going to replace this dollhouse/bookshelf with just a regular bookshelf and have already bought one, we just haven't put it together yet.  Then we still need to get a desk and some wall art.

Her dresser and doll wardrobe thingie.  Eventually we will paint those
closet doors and all the trim white.

And now Kayley's room.  This was the room that they shared until recently.  Kayley got a new bed and bedding, and a nightstand to match her dresser.  I love the bookshelf headboard and the cubbie at the foot of the bed.

The mattress sits too high and covers this bookshelf, but I think it's because we're not supposed to use a box spring with this one.  So next trip to the dump we'll get rid of it and then it will look better.

And this is where the desk will go when we get one.

So we still have a lot of work to do but it's a start.
