We received an ice cream maker for our wedding 7 years ago and had never used it.
We wanted to and kept meaning to but just never quite got around to it and that ice cream maker sat, still in the box, in our pantry and the pantry before this one for all these years. I finally got the thing out, washed it all up and bought the necessary ingredients to make Old Fashioned Vanilla ice cream and on the 4th we gave it a whirl (literally, ha ha). I actually had to make the base the night before, but on the 4th we put everything into the ice cream maker and turned it on and...nothing. The motor hummed, but it didn't churn. So we ended up churning it by hand with a crescent wrench. Luckily, the ice cream turned out just fine, but the broken appliance went in the trash.
A few days before the 4th I took the girls to a movie at the North Bend Theater, a typical old-fashioned, small-town, single-screen theater. They have FREE matinees on Tuesdays-Thursdays for most of the summer, but the movies are old. We saw An American Tail. We will hopefully go a few more times this summer.
