My "Before They Graduate" Bucket List

Several years ago, I came up with a bucket list of places I want to take the girls before they graduate from high school.  We only have one more summer left to check these places off as 2026 is their graduation year and I thought we would all be going on a big trip to Greece or somewhere in Europe, but I think they will probably just do individual trips with a group of friends.

At the time (probably 6 or 7 years ago) this was my bucket list:

  • Yellowstone National Park
  • Bryce Canyon
  • Zion NP
  • Mt. Rushmore
  • Disney World (already been to Disneyland a few times)
  • Grand Canyon
  • Canada, particularly Vancouver, B.C.
  • Washington, DC
  • NYC

Hawaii and Mexico would be on there but we had already been when I created this list.

And now, as of January 2025, here is what we have checked off:

  • Yellowstone National Park (we are going this summer!)
  • Bryce Canyon
  • Zion NP
  • Mt. Rushmore
  • Disney World (already been to Disneyland a few times)
  • Grand Canyon (only the North Rim, though, not quite the same but still counts)
  • Canada, particularly Vancouver, B.C. (Olivia has been to a Young Life camp somewhere way North of Vancouver, but I don't think Kayley has yet been to Canada)
  • Washington, DC
  • NYC

Not bad.  Looks like NYC and Mt. Rushmore aren't going to happen, but we did ok.  By the time I graduated, I had been to only 5 states (WA, OR, CA, HI, ID) plus Canada.  They have been to 14 states and will hit 3 more this summer, plus Mexico and a Caribbean cruise.

Show Us Your Life - Dining Rooms

It's time for this week's Show Us Your Life, brought to you by Kelly's Korner , and this week it's dining rooms. We have a very open floorplan, so when you walk in our front door the dining room is to the right and the living room to the left, with the fireplace straight ahead.  It's basically all one big room.     I bought the table and sideboard at Dania when I bought my first condo back in 2002.  It looked great in that condo, but for this house I wish I had black dining room furniture.  The table and sideboard are the same color as the trim, and then with the white walls (although we finally got one wall painted) it's just so blah.  And like most other rooms in the house, we have yet to hang curtains (not that we're going to hang them in every room, but we have yet to hang any). Looking in from the kitchen.  Need curtains! Looking in from the living room.  Notice the plastic protector underneath, for when the kids throw their sp...

Weigh-in Wednesday - Up and Down

So 2 weeks ago I skipped my weigh-in because of slacking off and then last week I skipped the weekly post altogether.  But I've since turned things around and am back on track. I've logged 2 good work outs so far this week.  On Monday I did C25K week 3 day 1 plus extra walking to equal 30 total minutes of cardio and then I did chest, shoulders and triceps.  Yesterday I did day 2 of C25K week 3 and legs.  Paul will be getting home later than usual for the rest of this week so I'm hoping the weather will cooperate so that I can just walk/run outside, as I won't have time to go to squeeze in the gym before dinner with him getting home later, or I could go after dinner but I don't really like to. So, after losing 7 pounds in April, I have since gained 8 (that's right-EIGHT) and lost 5.  OK, I probably didn't really gain 8.  That's what the scale said last Thursday but the very next day I was down 2.6 or 2.8 or something, so wh...

A Very Belated 2023 Recap

I guess I took a bit of a blogging break.  I only blogged three times last year and this will be my first post so far this year.  I just haven’t been in the mood but now suddenly I am.  We’ll see how long it lasts. Where to even begin?  A lot has happened since I last blogged.  The girls are about to turn 16, have jobs and are on the verge of getting their driver’s licenses.  We took an amazing trip to Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell and Las Vegas last summer.  We celebrated our 17th anniversary and are closing in on our 18th.  We attended some great concerts, did some fun hikes and have had lots of fun date nights, game nights and girl’s/guy’s nights out.  Ok, I guess that’s not all that much but whatever.  So, I guess to start off my 2024 blogging, I will recap 2023: I turned 54 in January. For President's Day weekend we went to Crescent Bar and from there Paul and Kayley went skiing at Mission Ridge and...
