Pantry Re-org

I love a good organizational project any time of year, but especially at the beginning of the year.  At the start of every year I have plans to go through every single room/cabinet/closet/drawer in the entire house (not all in one day, obviously), but rarely actually do.  Just a little here and there but only ever a small percentage of the whole house. I wasn't planning on doing the pantry yesterday, but just kind of decided to on a whim.  I had finally broke down and ordered a tiered canned good shelf that arrived yesterday so it seemed liked a great time to get started.  Here is what it looked like before:

That's the door going out to the garage, so this room also acts as a mud room.  Under the shelves on the floor are plastic bins that we put our shoes (and sometimes hats and gloves) in, one for each family member plus an extra.  Then there is the garbage/recycling and a container of cat food

On this side, I have a step stool, dog food, cat litter and a large cutting board that I mostly just use for turkey at Christmas (I rarely host Thanksgiving).

Hmmm...doesn't really look that bad from this angle, but still pretty cluttered

The first thing I did was remove all the shoes and other things on the floor and sweep and mop.  Then I removed most of the rest and purged, consolidated and reorganized.
You can't really tell in this photo, but just to the right of the vertical white bar is a clear plastic lazy susan, which is holding bottles of sauces/condiments. I already had that, but it had some canned goods and the rest of the canned goods were just on a shelf but now are all neatly contained on the new tiered shelf

These pictures don't really do it justice, but it really is much better.  Now if only it will last beyond next weekend!  We'll see...

First Snow of 2025

Yesterday it snowed for the first time this year.  I love when it snows when I don't have to go anywhere and can just stay home and admire it.  It snowed more today, and we took Kona out for a walk in the woods.  So pretty.

A Very Belated 2023 Recap

I guess I took a bit of a blogging break.  I only blogged three times last year and this will be my first post so far this year.  I just haven’t been in the mood but now suddenly I am.  We’ll see how long it lasts. Where to even begin?  A lot has happened since I last blogged.  The girls are about to turn 16, have jobs and are on the verge of getting their driver’s licenses.  We took an amazing trip to Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell and Las Vegas last summer.  We celebrated our 17th anniversary and are closing in on our 18th.  We attended some great concerts, did some fun hikes and have had lots of fun date nights, game nights and girl’s/guy’s nights out.  Ok, I guess that’s not all that much but whatever.  So, I guess to start off my 2024 blogging, I will recap 2023: I turned 54 in January. For President's Day weekend we went to Crescent Bar and from there Paul and Kayley went skiing at Mission Ridge and...

Show Us Your Life - Dining Rooms

It's time for this week's Show Us Your Life, brought to you by Kelly's Korner , and this week it's dining rooms. We have a very open floorplan, so when you walk in our front door the dining room is to the right and the living room to the left, with the fireplace straight ahead.  It's basically all one big room.     I bought the table and sideboard at Dania when I bought my first condo back in 2002.  It looked great in that condo, but for this house I wish I had black dining room furniture.  The table and sideboard are the same color as the trim, and then with the white walls (although we finally got one wall painted) it's just so blah.  And like most other rooms in the house, we have yet to hang curtains (not that we're going to hang them in every room, but we have yet to hang any). Looking in from the kitchen.  Need curtains! Looking in from the living room.  Notice the plastic protector underneath, for when the kids throw their sp...
