Bye, Crescent Bar Condo

We had a busy weekend.  On Saturday, we left a little after 10:00 to drive almost 2 hours to my Dad’s.  He recently moved into an assisted living facility.  After visiting and having lunch with him there, we went to his old place that he and my step-mom (who just moved into a memory care facility down in the Portland area) just moved out of to pick up a mini fridge for the girls (one or the other) to have for their dorm room.  We got back home around 3:30, then we packed up to head over to Crescent Bar.  We just sold our condo there, so we needed to clear out some personal belongings before closing on Wednesday.  It wasn’t quite warm enough to use the pool yet, but we did go in the hot tub Saturday night, and then on Sunday we took a nice walk with Kona and she got to play in the river a bit and run around in some of the grassy areas.

It was very bittersweet selling the condo.  Paul’s family has been going there for over 40 years, and I started going with him in 2005, so 21 years ago.  The girls have grown up going there every summer and other times and we’ve had many great times there with family and friends.  But the quarterly dues are really high, and the rental income is sometimes less than the dues, plus we are always having to replace bedding and towels, and have had to replace many of the appliances and some of the furniture, so it’s been a big money pit, plus we need the money for the girls’ college.  So, it’s a relief in that aspect, but also sad.  On the plus side, we had already planned on going there in July and the new owner has agreed to rent it to us, so we will still get to go this summer.

First Snow of 2025

Yesterday it snowed for the first time this year.  I love when it snows when I don't have to go anywhere and can just stay home and admire it.  It snowed more today, and we took Kona out for a walk in the woods.  So pretty.

A Very Belated 2023 Recap

I guess I took a bit of a blogging break.  I only blogged three times last year and this will be my first post so far this year.  I just haven’t been in the mood but now suddenly I am.  We’ll see how long it lasts. Where to even begin?  A lot has happened since I last blogged.  The girls are about to turn 16, have jobs and are on the verge of getting their driver’s licenses.  We took an amazing trip to Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell and Las Vegas last summer.  We celebrated our 17th anniversary and are closing in on our 18th.  We attended some great concerts, did some fun hikes and have had lots of fun date nights, game nights and girl’s/guy’s nights out.  Ok, I guess that’s not all that much but whatever.  So, I guess to start off my 2024 blogging, I will recap 2023: I turned 54 in January. For President's Day weekend we went to Crescent Bar and from there Paul and Kayley went skiing at Mission Ridge and...

Show Us Your Life - Dining Rooms

It's time for this week's Show Us Your Life, brought to you by Kelly's Korner , and this week it's dining rooms. We have a very open floorplan, so when you walk in our front door the dining room is to the right and the living room to the left, with the fireplace straight ahead.  It's basically all one big room.     I bought the table and sideboard at Dania when I bought my first condo back in 2002.  It looked great in that condo, but for this house I wish I had black dining room furniture.  The table and sideboard are the same color as the trim, and then with the white walls (although we finally got one wall painted) it's just so blah.  And like most other rooms in the house, we have yet to hang curtains (not that we're going to hang them in every room, but we have yet to hang any). Looking in from the kitchen.  Need curtains! Looking in from the living room.  Notice the plastic protector underneath, for when the kids throw their sp...
