MRSA

Awhile ago I posted that Kayley had a pimple on her girl parts that seemed to be infected.  I took her to the doctor and it turned out to be MRSA.  She was prescribed an antibiotic and got better.  Then, a week or two later, Olivia had a pimple on her butt.  I was hoping it would turn out to be nothing but sure enough, it got worse and worse and I had to take her in also.  MRSA for her, too.  Just as she was finishing her course of antibiotics, Kayley got it again.  This time, in addition to antibiotics, we've been doing bleach baths, Hibiclens (a special cleansing solution) and prescription ointment.  It seems to be under control so far.  What a pain.

Fitness Friday

It's been a bad week on the fitness/weight loss front.  I was going to skip today's weigh-in because I was scared about what I'd find out.  But, I figured it's probably better to know so that it might motivate me to get back on track before it gets even worse.  So I bit the bullet.  Sure enough, up 3 pounds.  THREE.  I'm hoping it has something to do with my cycle (period's due any day, sort of.  I never know when it's coming because sometimes I go 2 weeks and sometimes I go 3 months and anywhere in-between).  I'll check again tomorrow just in case. I ran on the treadmill on Monday, for the first time since I've been able to run a whole 3+ miles.  It was really cool to actually see the 3.1 on the readout and know for sure that's how far I ran as opposed to running outside.  Unfortunately, I haven't run or done any other exercise since.  I do plan to run tonight. I got my race packet in the mail yesterday!  It's getting clos...

Puppet Show

We took the girls to a puppet show at the library last night.  They were so excited (especially Olivia) and really enjoyed it.  It was called, "Cenerentola: The Italian Cinderella Puppet Show". It was really cute and the girls loved it.  I hope to find more puppet shows to take them to in the future.  There is a puppet theater in Seattle and we have an Entertainment coupon for it, so I'll be checking the schedule for something this summer, hopefully. Meeting the puppets after the show

Fitness Friday

Down another 1.8 pounds as of yesterday!  Total loss of 5.8 since late March/early April.  Not counting any pounds gained and relost.  This week's workouts: Friday (the 11th) - 2.5 mile run Monday - Tried to run my normal 2.5-3.5 miles but attempted to run after dinner.  I made it about a mile then had to walk (there's a long, slow climbing hill during that part of my running route that didn't help much).  I alternated walking and running for the rest of that workout. Wednesday - Managed a 3-mile run (might've been 3.1 or 3.2, not really sure). For the last several weeks now I've either lost or stayed the same.  It's probably way too early to officially declare the cycle broken but at least I'm on the right track.  Yay.

Mother's Day/Anniversary Weekend

Saturday evening our friends generously agreed to babysit so we could go out for our anniversary (which was Sunday).  We went to Purple Cafe and Wine Bar in Bellevue. I actually wore my wedding shoes.  I just love them, but being white and sparkly, they don't really go with much so it's always a treat when I get the chance to wear them.  I think this was only the 2nd, maybe 3rd time I've worn them other than on my wedding day. After dinner, we drove to West Seattle to Salty's on Alki where my friend Jerri was having a going away party.  It was a fun evening (other than having to say goodbye to a good friend, but I saw her again on Monday). Sunday, we skipped church and went to Paul's parents' house for Mother's Day.  We had brunch, then took the girls to a park. Later, we bbq'd burgers and hotdogs, then had strawberry shortcake for dessert.  When we got home, we continued our anniversary celebration with our annual vi...

Our Wedding Day

Today is our 6th anniversary.  I wasn't blogging yet 6 years ago, so I've decided to do a wedding post in honor of our anniversary. Our wedding was on May 13th, 2006, in my hometown of Mount Vernon, Washington, in the church I grew up in (Emmanuel Baptist).   The reception was held in the church gymnasium.  The plus side was it saved a ton of money since rental is free for members (my parents).  The downside is they don't allow alcohol OR dancing.  We still had a great time, but if I had it to do over again I'd probably have the reception somewhere else so we could dance. Our cake.  Each layer was a different flavor, except the bottom and top were the same. Getting ready to toast Aruba, here we come!  After the reception, we went by limo straight to a hotel near the airport, spent the night and flew to Aruba the next morning for our honeymoon.

Fitness Friday

I'm finally getting things moving in the right direction.  I'm down 1.8 pounds as of yesterday (I weighed a day early because I knew we were having pizza for dinner and didn't want to weigh the day after that ). Last Saturday I had my best run ever.  I ran 3.5 miles!  Including a long hill at the end.  It felt amazing.  I set out to run again on Monday, but I was still a bit sore and I just couldn't do it again.  I think I ran about a mile give or take before I had to stop and walk, then I tried to run a few more times but not very far.  Tonight will be my first run since Monday, so hopefully I can do ~3 miles again.  Meanwhile, I did the 30 Day Shred on Tuesday, Zumba on Wednesday, and the Shred again yesterday.  I hadn't done Zumba in forever, so that was really fun, but I really can't wait to run again.  I never thought I'd say this but I actually kind of like it.

Fitness Friday - First 5K

So, Saturday I finished week 7 of C25K with a 25-minute run.  It was harder than usual because I ran with a friend in her neighborhood and there were more hills, plus we were trying to converse.  But I did it without too much problem.  Then, it was time for week 8 day 1 on Monday, a 28-minute run.  I was debating just sticking to the program and running for 28 minutes, or going for 30.  Well, I did 32!  I was going along, approaching the 30-minute mark and just decided to go for an even 2.5 miles, which ended up being about 32 minutes.  Then on Wednesday, I set out to do just another 32, or maybe 35.  But I was feeling so good that I just kept going until the end of my playlist, which was 41 minutes!  I was outside so I don't know how far I ended up going, but it must've been about 3 miles, give or take.  So, screw weeks 8 and 9 of C25K.  I think I've officially graduated.  AND, I signed up for my first 5K!  Eek. It's...
