Ourr Valentine's Day

For as long as the girls have been alive I've vowed to give them the following every year:  An Easter basket, a Christmas stocking and a little Valentine's treat.  Growing up, Easter baskets were hit and miss--some years I got them and some I didn't.  By around age 10 I'm pretty sure I stopped getting them altogether (and yet, Mom gave all of my nieces and nephews one every year until they were at least 18).  Same with stockings, although I think I got one most years.  And not that V-day is that big of a deal for kids, but I only remember getting anything once, maybe twice.  But then again, we always had school parties where we got lots of candy, so no biggie.  So anyway, I vowed that the girls would always get all of those things until they graduated from high school.

Valentine's is never much, usually just a small treat and maybe a gift card.  This year I got them each a small candle from Target, their favorite candy (Altoids for Olivia and wintergreen Lifesavers for Kayley), and then threw in some chocolate hearts and some other candy as well.  I meant to throw in a Starbucks gift card but never got around to getting them.

Paul and I always get each other the same thing--See's chocolates for him and flowers and chocolate covered strawberries for me.  We went to dinner at our local Italian restaurant.  They have a smoked salmon fettuccini that is so good.  For dessert (as if the See's and strawberries weren't enough) I picked up Crumbl Cookies.

First Snow of 2025

Yesterday it snowed for the first time this year.  I love when it snows when I don't have to go anywhere and can just stay home and admire it.  It snowed more today, and we took Kona out for a walk in the woods.  So pretty.

A Very Belated 2023 Recap

I guess I took a bit of a blogging break.  I only blogged three times last year and this will be my first post so far this year.  I just haven’t been in the mood but now suddenly I am.  We’ll see how long it lasts. Where to even begin?  A lot has happened since I last blogged.  The girls are about to turn 16, have jobs and are on the verge of getting their driver’s licenses.  We took an amazing trip to Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell and Las Vegas last summer.  We celebrated our 17th anniversary and are closing in on our 18th.  We attended some great concerts, did some fun hikes and have had lots of fun date nights, game nights and girl’s/guy’s nights out.  Ok, I guess that’s not all that much but whatever.  So, I guess to start off my 2024 blogging, I will recap 2023: I turned 54 in January. For President's Day weekend we went to Crescent Bar and from there Paul and Kayley went skiing at Mission Ridge and...

Show Us Your Life - Dining Rooms

It's time for this week's Show Us Your Life, brought to you by Kelly's Korner , and this week it's dining rooms. We have a very open floorplan, so when you walk in our front door the dining room is to the right and the living room to the left, with the fireplace straight ahead.  It's basically all one big room.     I bought the table and sideboard at Dania when I bought my first condo back in 2002.  It looked great in that condo, but for this house I wish I had black dining room furniture.  The table and sideboard are the same color as the trim, and then with the white walls (although we finally got one wall painted) it's just so blah.  And like most other rooms in the house, we have yet to hang curtains (not that we're going to hang them in every room, but we have yet to hang any). Looking in from the kitchen.  Need curtains! Looking in from the living room.  Notice the plastic protector underneath, for when the kids throw their sp...
