Father-daughter Dance and Whirlwind Weekends

There just is no such thing as a nice, relaxing weekend anymore. Obviously, with kids they were few and far between anyway, but now that I'm working every weekend is jam-packed with errands, cleaning and cooking.  And at the end of every weekend there is a super long list of things I meant to do but just never found time.  We joined the Y about 3 weeks ago and I have yet to go work out.  I keep meaning to do a weekly meal plan every Sunday (or Saturday) but always run out of time.  We desperately need a new mattress but can't find time to shop for one, and the list goes on and on.  Then there's the girls' birthday party coming up on the 28th, and several family birthdays in March, plus a few stints selling Girl Scout cookies at a grocery store and so on.  And the girls aren't even in soccer or softball or anything involving weekend games/practices (they have gymnastics on Monday nights).  I can't imagine what weekends would be like if they were.

Here's a rundown of our weekend.

Saturday I got up at 8:15.  The girls had been up for awhile but just watched TV.  I got my coffee and sat down to watch a little HGTV and was joined by Olivia.  Then I started cleaning (dusting, vacuuming, litter box) while Paul made breakfast.  After breakfast I took a shower and got ready and we all ran a quick errand and by the time we got back it was lunch time.  The girls were supposed to go to a birthday party at 3:00, but the Father-daughter dance was at 5:30 and the party was a good half hour away, we still needed a gift and Kayley still needed shoes for the dance.  I emailed the host and said something came up and we couldn't make it after all (I had already let her know that we'd have to leave early for the dance), and we left in search of shoes.

Got the shoes, went home and got ready for the dance.

Olivia had to get new shoes, too, and they were red.  Yep.

Kayley refused to be in this picture.

Sunday we got up around 8 (girls again were up earlier and watched TV), had breakfast and got ready and left at 10:15 to go up to MV to visit mom and then have lunch with the rest of my family because my niece is home for a few weeks from an extended sailing trip.  After lunch we hit the dollar store because we don't have one close to where we live (we mostly bought birthday party supplies), then went to Costco and Fred Meyer on our way back home.  Once we got home, put all the groceries away, had dinner and cleaned up it was almost bed time.

Now every one is in bed, I'm posting this and then I'll probably watch a little TV then go to bed.  There is tons more cleaning/organizing/projects, etc. that I could do but it's 10:00 and I'm tired.

A Day in My Life

It's time once again for the Multiples and More Question of the Week:  A Day in Your Life. What is your schedule like? Do you work outside the home or stay home with the kids?   I am very blessed to be a SAHM.  Our schedule looks something like this: The girls get up anywhere between 7:20 and 8:20, but usually around 8:00.  Lately I've been letting them watch an episode of Dora so I can get on the computer and check email, Facebook, etc.  Otherwise they just play for an hour or so and then we have breakfast. By the time we're done with breakfast (fixing, eating and cleaning up) it's usually between 9:30 and 10:00.  We get dressed, and then we go wherever we're going that day (errands, park, playdate, etc.).  If it's a stay home day, I'll usually do a DVD workout while they just play upstairs and then we'll go for a walk or play outside after. Lunch is anywhere between 12:00 and 1:00, and nap is 1:30 or 2:00 to 4:00 ...

A Very Belated 2023 Recap

I guess I took a bit of a blogging break.  I only blogged three times last year and this will be my first post so far this year.  I just haven’t been in the mood but now suddenly I am.  We’ll see how long it lasts. Where to even begin?  A lot has happened since I last blogged.  The girls are about to turn 16, have jobs and are on the verge of getting their driver’s licenses.  We took an amazing trip to Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell and Las Vegas last summer.  We celebrated our 17th anniversary and are closing in on our 18th.  We attended some great concerts, did some fun hikes and have had lots of fun date nights, game nights and girl’s/guy’s nights out.  Ok, I guess that’s not all that much but whatever.  So, I guess to start off my 2024 blogging, I will recap 2023: I turned 54 in January. For President's Day weekend we went to Crescent Bar and from there Paul and Kayley went skiing at Mission Ridge and...

Show Us Your Life - Dining Rooms

It's time for this week's Show Us Your Life, brought to you by Kelly's Korner , and this week it's dining rooms. We have a very open floorplan, so when you walk in our front door the dining room is to the right and the living room to the left, with the fireplace straight ahead.  It's basically all one big room.     I bought the table and sideboard at Dania when I bought my first condo back in 2002.  It looked great in that condo, but for this house I wish I had black dining room furniture.  The table and sideboard are the same color as the trim, and then with the white walls (although we finally got one wall painted) it's just so blah.  And like most other rooms in the house, we have yet to hang curtains (not that we're going to hang them in every room, but we have yet to hang any). Looking in from the kitchen.  Need curtains! Looking in from the living room.  Notice the plastic protector underneath, for when the kids throw their sp...
