Family Vacation - Part 2

First of all, sad news.  Paul's dad passed away last Saturday (the 21st) after a month-long battle with Covid.  He fell ill around the 25th of July, ended up on a ventilator a few days later, got off of that a week later and was seemingly on the mend, but took a turn for the worse and passed away.  We were supposed to be on our Florida trip this week but had to cancel because of his decline and eventual passing.  He was a really great man and we will miss him immensely.

But now it's finally time for part two of our Missouri vacation.  For part one (days 1-3) click here.

Day Four - Paul and I left the girls with Aunt Cheryl and set out on our road trip.  We went to Bentonville, Arkansas, walked around the town square, had a small bite to eat and then headed into Oklahoma, stopping at the AR/OK/MO tri-state marker on the way.

From there we drove up to Afton and stopped at a historic spot on Route 66, a chuck of road that is no longer part of the highway but you can park and walk around and get pictures, and there is a Will Rogers memorial marker.

Then we drove Route 66 to Vinita, with plans to have lunch at the historic Clanton's Cafe, but it was closed!

Not sure why on a Saturday and don't think it was Covid-related as I think it had been open days before according to Google. So we backtracked back to Afton and got pictures of the historic Rest Haven motel.

Next up was Miami (pronounced My-am-uh), home of the historic "ribbon road".  This was a 9' wide section of highway in Oklahoma, because they only had enough money to make it either half as wide or half as long, so they opted for the former.  We had lunch at another historic spot, Waylan's Ku-Ku (as in cuckoo clock).  I would have loved to see inside but it was drive-through only.

I just love these old signs

Out next stop was the town of Commerce, OK, and the childhood home of Mickey Mantel.  Very cool.

Mickey supposedly would hit balls against this shed

Leaving Commerce, we went through Quapaw, across the Kansas state line into Baxter Springs, and then over the historic Rainbow Bridge.

Some guy in a big truck was burning rubber over this marker right before we got here.

We continued on through Riverton and into Galena, where we stopped at Cars on the Route.

Just past that we crossed into Missouri and went through Joplin, Webb City, Carthage, Avilla, and a bunch of tiny towns almost to Springfield before heading south back to Branson.  It was a long but really fun day.

A Day in My Life

It's time once again for the Multiples and More Question of the Week:  A Day in Your Life. What is your schedule like? Do you work outside the home or stay home with the kids?   I am very blessed to be a SAHM.  Our schedule looks something like this: The girls get up anywhere between 7:20 and 8:20, but usually around 8:00.  Lately I've been letting them watch an episode of Dora so I can get on the computer and check email, Facebook, etc.  Otherwise they just play for an hour or so and then we have breakfast. By the time we're done with breakfast (fixing, eating and cleaning up) it's usually between 9:30 and 10:00.  We get dressed, and then we go wherever we're going that day (errands, park, playdate, etc.).  If it's a stay home day, I'll usually do a DVD workout while they just play upstairs and then we'll go for a walk or play outside after. Lunch is anywhere between 12:00 and 1:00, and nap is 1:30 or 2:00 to 4:00 ...

A Very Belated 2023 Recap

I guess I took a bit of a blogging break.  I only blogged three times last year and this will be my first post so far this year.  I just haven’t been in the mood but now suddenly I am.  We’ll see how long it lasts. Where to even begin?  A lot has happened since I last blogged.  The girls are about to turn 16, have jobs and are on the verge of getting their driver’s licenses.  We took an amazing trip to Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell and Las Vegas last summer.  We celebrated our 17th anniversary and are closing in on our 18th.  We attended some great concerts, did some fun hikes and have had lots of fun date nights, game nights and girl’s/guy’s nights out.  Ok, I guess that’s not all that much but whatever.  So, I guess to start off my 2024 blogging, I will recap 2023: I turned 54 in January. For President's Day weekend we went to Crescent Bar and from there Paul and Kayley went skiing at Mission Ridge and...

Show Us Your Life - Dining Rooms

It's time for this week's Show Us Your Life, brought to you by Kelly's Korner , and this week it's dining rooms. We have a very open floorplan, so when you walk in our front door the dining room is to the right and the living room to the left, with the fireplace straight ahead.  It's basically all one big room.     I bought the table and sideboard at Dania when I bought my first condo back in 2002.  It looked great in that condo, but for this house I wish I had black dining room furniture.  The table and sideboard are the same color as the trim, and then with the white walls (although we finally got one wall painted) it's just so blah.  And like most other rooms in the house, we have yet to hang curtains (not that we're going to hang them in every room, but we have yet to hang any). Looking in from the kitchen.  Need curtains! Looking in from the living room.  Notice the plastic protector underneath, for when the kids throw their sp...
