Home Tours - Master Bedroom

I'm linking up with Kelly again for Everyday Real Life Home Tours, master bedroom edition.
I've done this same link up topic before, but since then we have got new bedding and rearranged the furniture a little.

We got our bedroom set right  before we got married 10 years ago and I still love it.

It's actually much darker than it looks in this photo

We switched places with the armoire and the tall dresser because we were trying to make room for a bookcase that we needed to move out of our loft.  Turns out we didn't need to but Paul really liked having the armoire in the corner.  And since we don't have a TV in it anymore it doesn't really need to be right in front of the bed, not that it needed to in the first place except that's where the cable hookup is.

That outlet by the door is where we charge all our devices every night :)

It used to look like this

I am kind of sick of the red wall so we are going to paint it soon.  It's just one of those projects that we never find time for.

Here's a better picture of our bedding, we just have different throw pillows plus the big European pillows.

What's Up Wednesday

So I just found this fun link-up and really wanted to participate but I really don’t have time to answer all the questions complete with pictures and all that.  Usually the second I sit down at the computer the girls start bugging me or fighting or something and they stay up so late anymore that I don't have a lot of time in the evenings before I have to go to bed so it's super hard to find time to blog.  So here’s my half-ass version of What’s Up Wednesday.  But first, in case you are visiting from there and have never been to my blog before, I'd like to explain the title, "The No Nanny Diaries", obviously a play on the book title, "The Nanny Diaries", because when I started this blog I was a stay-at-home mom.  The name is no longer applicable, however, now that I'm back working and we actually DO have a nanny during the summer and on Fridays during the school year.  So I will be changing my blog title soon.  Anyway, on to WUW, hosted by Mel, Sheaffer and Shay:

What we’re eating this week – This is where I will be the only blogger on this link-up that doesn’t have photos of any of our meals.  Usually by the time I get home from work Paul and the girls have already eaten, but now that it’s summer they seem to be on a little bit later schedule so we’ve been eating together a bit more.  Monday was grilled steak, and Tuesdays they usually go out after gymnastics and I do my own thing, but they ended up bringing home pizza so I ate some of that.  Tonight I was going to have a grilled chicken breast and veggies but that didn't sound good so I ended up having cereal.  Don’t know about Thursday and Friday we are heading to Crescent Bar so we will eat out on our way.

What I’m reminiscing about – Being a stay-at-home mom.  During the school year, not a day goes by that I don’t day dream about all the things I could be doing while the girls are in school (organizing, scrapbooking, decorating, shopping, exercising, etc.), and now that it’s summer, I’m wishing I could be available to take them to the beach/lake/spray park etc.

What I’m loving – having a housekeeper.  It’s such a lifesaver.  I used to spend literally my entire weekend just cleaning, running errands, grocery shopping and cooking, but now I only have to spend them running errands, grocery shopping and cooking.  Score.

What we’ve been up to – Nothing much.  We took the girls to the zoo several weeks ago (2 days after they went on a school field trip, but we went to a different zoo that they had never been to).  They got to ride a camel and feed some birds.

Beaver on a leash

They also got new bikes recently (they had outgrown their previous ones)

What I’m dreading – Well, I was dreading summer (childcare issues and never getting to do fun things with the girls except on weekends when everything is super crowded and busy), but it’s already here and we’ll get by.

What I’m working on – Just the usual, weight loss and projects around the house when I have time, which is pretty much never.

What I’m excited about – Our upcoming trip to Cabo San Lucas!  I’ve been to Mexico but never Cabo.  We’re going with Paul’s parents and sister and staying in a penthouse unit at their timeshare, Hacienda del Mar.
I've always wanted to go to a place with a swim-up bar, and it has one!  And an infinity pool.

What I’m watching – Just finished Breaking Bad on Netflix.  So good!  Now I'm going to start The Walking Dead.  And I used to watch just about anything on HGTV, but we downgraded our cable and got Hulu which doesn't have HGTV anymore.  There are a few seasons of a few shoes on Netflix, though, so I can still watch Fixer Upper, but they're old episodes.

What I’m reading – Just finished The Girl on the Train and now I'm reading Shopaholic to the Stars.

(not an Amazon link)

What I’m wearing – I am so not a fashion blogger or outfit selfie taker, but I recently signed up for Stitch Fix and have added some super cute tops to my wardrobe.  Just got these yesterday so haven't worn them yet but I can't wait to

And this top was in my last Fix.  I love the double layer look.

This top was in my first Fix a few months ago.  It's cute with black leggings and flats or booties and a long necklace which there actually is one in the picture but you can't really see it.

And hello!  Yellow!  I actually like yellow and I love the lace detail on the sleeves.  I wore this today but I'm going to send it back (is that even allowed?  I can't find an answer to that question anywhere, but I don't know how they will know I wore it, other than the tag has been removed but I will send that too and I could have just removed it because I thought I was going to keep it and then changed my mind).

What I’m doing this weekend – Going to Crescent Bar.  The in-laws have a condo there and we usually go 3-4 times every summer, although this will be our 2nd and final trip this year just due to work and schedules.

What I’m looking forward to next month – Cabo!  (See "What I'm excited about" above)

What else is new - Not much...

Question of the MonthWhat is your favorite 4th of July Tradition and/or recipe?
Our neighborhood puts on a community event at a local park with bouncy houses, pony rides, face painting, live music, etc.  We usually go to that (unless the 4th falls on a weekend then we are usually at Crescent Bar) and a few years ago we started getting together with a few neighborhood friends for a BBQ and fireworks.

Last year's theme was Disney

Summer Break, Week 1

I used to love summer.  But ever since I've gone back to work I'm no longer a huge fan.  I hate not being able to take the girls to the beach/lake/spray park, etc.  Or just hanging out in the backyard.  And there's always certain weeks or days during the summer that our regular babysitter isn't available and we have to scramble to find someone.  It's a pain and stressful and summers just aren't very fun anymore.  I know it will get better as I'm able to take more time off but for now it's really hard.

Anyway, their first week of summer break is over and again, while I wish I could say that we went to this lake and that museum, the reality is that they were home with a babysitter all day while we were at work.  They did lots of painting, baked some cookies, went to the park, and even had a friend over for a playdate.

Olivia continues to have gymnastics on Tuesdays and violin lessons on Wednesdays.

The weekend was fun, though.  Yesterday we went to a pool party for our friend's daughter's birthday and today we stayed home all day and cleaned out the garage and worked in the yard.  The girls got inventive with their old booster seats, their skateboards and some bungee cords.  A friend stopped  by just in time to test it out but then they quickly got sidetracked and did a lemonade stand instead.

This week they are going to Camp Invention.  They will take apart a small clock radio and I guess they are going to try to reinvent it into something else using all kinds of things from around the house.  I'm back to making lunches every night and they're going to have to get up earlier.  They've been sleeping in 'til around 9 most days, I think.

Father's Day

For the 2nd year in a row we had both sets of parents over for a Father's Day BBQ.  We just hung out in the backyard and drank margaritas, ate burgers and strawberry shortcake for dessert and played a Seahawk themed bean bag toss game.  Kayley and I smoked Paul and Olivia.  Paul got a nice lawn chair (the kind you can lie down in) from his parents and I got a cushion for it plus an outdoor candle/lantern thingie and a bottle of wine.  I called it a date night package.

The girls got snorkel gear for our upcoming trip to Cabo

Olivia took a selfie of us

Tomorrow is the first official day of summer vacation for the girls.  They will be with their regular babysitter all week except Friday.  Paul is taking most Fridays off all summer.  I bought some new toys in an effort to curb their iPad/laptop addiction so we'll see.

Kayley and Mom's Day of Fun

With the girls being in separate classes in school this past year, they have made some of their own friends in addition to their several mutual friends, and sometime one or the other will be invited to a birthday party that the other one is not invited to.  Such was the case today.  Olivia went to a birthday party solo and I took the opportunity to spend some rare one-on-one time with Kayley.  She had some gift cards to Claire's and Target, so our first stop was Claire's.  She got a new Beanie Boo and some candy (what else) and while we were there I picked up a few things for some upcoming birthday parties.

Then we went to Mod Pizza for lunch, where amazingly enough I got Kayley to actually smile for a picture:

After lunch we went across the street to Pinkabella Cupcakes for a treat (to bring home, as we were pretty full after that yummy pizza) and then to Target, which was especially crazy being the Saturday before Father's Day, but we survived.  So we didn't do anything particularly exciting but it was still nice to have some one-on-one time.

Last Day of 2nd Grade

Today was the girls' last day of 2nd grade, AND their last day at their current school because next year they will go to the brand new school being built just down the road from us!  It's very bittersweet, as we will miss many of our friends and teachers that will remain at the current school but it will be so nice to go to a brand new school that is so close, and most of our good friends will be going there as well.

I took the day off, so I had about 3 hours in the morning to work on some projects (so nice!), then I went to pick them up and hang around for a little good-bye picnic/playdate that one of my mom friends organized.  And after that we went to another friend's house for another playdate which has become a yearly tradition now.  It was a fun day.

Kayley will not take a serious picture, ever.
