Early July, 2007

Since I wasn't blogging yet when we went through IVF and got pregnant with the girls, I've decided to use the 5th anniversary to commemorate the event.  It was 5 years ago today that we found out I was pregnant.

We had an appointment in the morning for my blood draw (beta).  I mentioned before how I didn't want to test any of the days leading up until the 5th because it was either too early or could potentially ruin the 4th of July holiday or make me unable to go to work, so I had to wait until the 5th to test (I took the day off from work, and if it would have been negative, I probably would've taken Friday, too).  I didn't want to test before my appointment, because if it had been negative I didn't want to have to put myself through the whole ordeal already knowing I'm not pregnant.  I definitely wanted to find out in the privacy of my own home, though, not over the phone from a nurse.  So I decided to finally test when we got home from the appointment, but before they called with the results.  And for the first time in my life, I didn't have to pee for like, two hours.  Figures.  (In hindsight, I should have peed in a cup first thing in the morning and just dipped the stick as soon as we got home, but that didn't occur to me, plus, having a cup of urine sitting around the bathroom is kinda gross.)  I remember being kind of worried that they were going to call with the results before I'd had a chance to test!  Finally, a few hours after getting home, I had to pee. I did the test and set it on the counter without looking. Then Paul and I decided to take a walk around our condo complex rather than just sit there in agony for 3 minutes (I'm sure a line appeared right away, but I didn't want to sit there and watch and have it not appear). When we returned from our walk, we raced upstairs and into the bathroom, but he was ahead of me and right before I got through the bathroom door I heard him say, "you're pregnant!". I grabbed the stick, saw those two lines and we just hugged and cried.

That night we went to dinner to celebrate.  The next day was Friday and I had to go to work.  I wasn't going to tell anyone at work until I was 12 weeks, so I didn't mention anything.  I felt funny all day, not morning sickness but just weird.  I wonder if I would have felt that way had I still not known, or if it was more of a pyschological thing-now that I know I'm pregnant I suddenly feel weird.

Anyway, Saturday I had my second beta (which, by the way, almost tripled from 501 to 1400) and then we left to spend the weekend at Crescent Bar, just the two (four?) of us.  I was really tired that day (and most days thereafter), and very emotional.  I remember watching some movie that normally wouldn't make me cry and I was just bawling.

I suspected twins right away, given my beta numbers.  A few weeks later it was confirmed!

Great post! I was blogging when I got pregnant with our twin boys, so it's all out there. I didn't suspect twins, but DH did. It was so funny going to the ultrasound that showed us we were having twins! I was shocked!

A Day in My Life

It's time once again for the Multiples and More Question of the Week:  A Day in Your Life. What is your schedule like? Do you work outside the home or stay home with the kids?   I am very blessed to be a SAHM.  Our schedule looks something like this: The girls get up anywhere between 7:20 and 8:20, but usually around 8:00.  Lately I've been letting them watch an episode of Dora so I can get on the computer and check email, Facebook, etc.  Otherwise they just play for an hour or so and then we have breakfast. By the time we're done with breakfast (fixing, eating and cleaning up) it's usually between 9:30 and 10:00.  We get dressed, and then we go wherever we're going that day (errands, park, playdate, etc.).  If it's a stay home day, I'll usually do a DVD workout while they just play upstairs and then we'll go for a walk or play outside after. Lunch is anywhere between 12:00 and 1:00, and nap is 1:30 or 2:00 to 4:00 ...

A Very Belated 2023 Recap

I guess I took a bit of a blogging break.  I only blogged three times last year and this will be my first post so far this year.  I just haven’t been in the mood but now suddenly I am.  We’ll see how long it lasts. Where to even begin?  A lot has happened since I last blogged.  The girls are about to turn 16, have jobs and are on the verge of getting their driver’s licenses.  We took an amazing trip to Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell and Las Vegas last summer.  We celebrated our 17th anniversary and are closing in on our 18th.  We attended some great concerts, did some fun hikes and have had lots of fun date nights, game nights and girl’s/guy’s nights out.  Ok, I guess that’s not all that much but whatever.  So, I guess to start off my 2024 blogging, I will recap 2023: I turned 54 in January. For President's Day weekend we went to Crescent Bar and from there Paul and Kayley went skiing at Mission Ridge and...

Show Us Your Life - Dining Rooms

It's time for this week's Show Us Your Life, brought to you by Kelly's Korner , and this week it's dining rooms. We have a very open floorplan, so when you walk in our front door the dining room is to the right and the living room to the left, with the fireplace straight ahead.  It's basically all one big room.     I bought the table and sideboard at Dania when I bought my first condo back in 2002.  It looked great in that condo, but for this house I wish I had black dining room furniture.  The table and sideboard are the same color as the trim, and then with the white walls (although we finally got one wall painted) it's just so blah.  And like most other rooms in the house, we have yet to hang curtains (not that we're going to hang them in every room, but we have yet to hang any). Looking in from the kitchen.  Need curtains! Looking in from the living room.  Notice the plastic protector underneath, for when the kids throw their sp...
