Finding Out it was Twins

As I've mentioned in several previous posts, I was not yet blogging 5 years ago when I became pregnant with the girls.  I decided that in honor of the 5th anniversary of my pregnancy/their birth, I would document the highlights as their anniversary occurs.

July 26th was the anniversary of my first ultrasound.  I was 7 weeks 1 day.  It was at the RE's office.  It was also the day we found out I was carrying twins.

I suspected twins all along due to my high beta numbers but I was really hoping for a singleton.  When they told us it was twins I was really disappointed.  Now, don't get me wrong--I was THRILLED to be pregnant, and I would have taken twins or even octuplets over zero babies ANY day.  But I was sad that I would miss out on:
  • Mother/baby yoga - I had looked forward to going to a mom/baby yoga class, but with TWO babies, that wouldn't be possible.
  • A normal trip to the grocery store with the one baby in the front of the shopping cart.  What the heck do I do with the second baby when I go grocery shopping?
  • A natural, med-free birth.  I had dreamed of this for YEARS.  Now, even if I could have a vaginal birth (I couldn't because they were both breech) I would still have to have the epidural in case an emergency c-section for baby b became necessary.  No walking around during labor, no laboring in the position of my choice, etc.  All moot anyway as I had a necessary c-section due to both babies being breech.
  • Being able to sleep when the baby sleeps.  With two, there would be no guarantees that both would sleep at the same time.
I'm sure at the time I had a longer list, but those were the main concerns.  Nonetheless, I was still thrilled to be pregnant and loved both girls to death from the get-go.  We never did a yoga class, but I did take them to Gymboree when they were around 14 months, and when they did circle time I just had to switch off from one to the other and the instructor ended up doing things with whichever one I didn't have at the time.  It was hard, and I was so jealous of all the "normal" mothers with just one baby.  We mangaged to do lots of other fun things over the years--storytime, mall play area, indoor playground, childrens' museum, etc, so who cares about a stupid yoga class.

I guess I tried not to think about those things with the first set. But, my one thing that I did miss out on is having a great breastfeeding experience. One of my girls never did latch properly so she pretty much just got bottles of pumped milk. I just hope I am more successful with my next set! Only time will tell :)

ohh, i felt the same way about the twins. my girls were my firsts, too, and i felt like i missed out on a lot of things having two babies.

actually, i barely left the house during the first 5 or 6 months they were here...it was so overwhelming! i took them to the mall once by myself and ended up with all three of us crying in the parking lot! ha!

Luther Burbank Park

Last summer a friend of mine introduced me to this cool park on Mercer Island.  When we went, we only played at the swimming beach and never explored the rest of the park or played on the playground.  So yesterday, we finally went back with a picnic lunch and checked out some more of the park (there's still another section we didn't get to, so maybe next time).  The playground was really cool with all sorts of nooks and cranies, and old-fashioned metal slides and ladders.  They girls loved it. View from our picnic spot A pyramid with slides on the other side Lake Washington beyond Chair swings--never seen these before I-90 bridge over Lake Washington Trail along the lake leading to the swimming beach Should have brought swimsuits.  They were SO sandy and wet coming home.

First Day of 10th Grade

Today was the first day of 10th grade for the girls.  Sophomores.  I can't believe we only have two more of these.  Not counting college, of course. Kayley Kayley again Olivia It has become my tradition to take the day before and the first day off.  Back in the elementary days, the day before the first day was "meet the teacher day", so I would always take them to that, then in middle school we would just go to lunch or get our nails done.  Last year was their first day of high school, though, so that day was orientation and that brings us up to this year.  The day before the first day is "Wildcat Day", which is mostly a freshman and new student orientation.  Olivia is in ASB so she had to go help with that, but Kayley didn't go.  Instead, her and I took some of her old clothes to this resale store called Plato's Closet to try and sell them (it's similar to a consignment shop except they just pay you then and there and then resell them, instead of o

A Day in My Life

It's time once again for the Multiples and More Question of the Week:  A Day in Your Life. What is your schedule like? Do you work outside the home or stay home with the kids?   I am very blessed to be a SAHM.  Our schedule looks something like this: The girls get up anywhere between 7:20 and 8:20, but usually around 8:00.  Lately I've been letting them watch an episode of Dora so I can get on the computer and check email, Facebook, etc.  Otherwise they just play for an hour or so and then we have breakfast. By the time we're done with breakfast (fixing, eating and cleaning up) it's usually between 9:30 and 10:00.  We get dressed, and then we go wherever we're going that day (errands, park, playdate, etc.).  If it's a stay home day, I'll usually do a DVD workout while they just play upstairs and then we'll go for a walk or play outside after. Lunch is anywhere between 12:00 and 1:00, and nap is 1:30 or 2:00 to 4:00 or 4:30. After their nap
