Caribbean Cruise! (Summer Break: Week 5)

So, after a little over a year of waiting and anticipating, our big Caribbean Cruise was last week.  It was so fun!

We flew to Ft. Lauderdale on Friday, the 14th, spent the night and took a shuttle to the cruise terminal on Saturday.  We met up with all our friends who had flown in on various days, boarded the ship and we were off!

Sunday and Monday were both days at sea, so we spent most of our time by the pool and exploring the ship.

We went to a few shows during the week.  One was a comedy/juggling show, one was a regular comedian, and one was a dinner show with a singing group.

Tuesday we were in St. Thomas.

We went on a snorkeling excursion.  We rode on a catamaran to St. John, to a place called Honeymoon Beach.  We snorkeled for an hour or so and then rode back.  They were serving rum punch and champagne, but I didn't have either because I forgot to take my Dramamine and was feeling a little seasick.  Plus, I don't like rum or champagne.  I prefer vodka and wine, or margaritas.  Although, I did have a Bahama Mama one day poolside and that became my drink of choice for the rest of the cruise.

Wednesday we were in Tortola.  We went on an excursion to a place called the Baths, on the island of Virgin Gourda.  Absolutely stunning.  You hike though all these caves and rock formations and it's really beautiful.

I took this with my water-proof camera and all of them turned out blurry but I thought it was cute anyway

Thursday was another day at sea, and then Friday we were in Nassau, Bahamas.  The girls got their hair braided, then we went on an excursion to swim with dolphins.  So fun.  They don't let you take pictures, and since we had just done it in Mexico last year we didn't buy any of the photos so I have nothing to post of that adventure.

Saturday morning we arrived back in Miami and went on an excursion to the Everglades.  We rode around in an airboat but didn't see much, then they have a little show with some alligators and some reptiles on display.  The girls got to hold Snappy, a baby alligator.  So cute.

That tour included transportation to the airport, but we were about 5 hours early for our flight, because Alaska only has one flight per day out of Ft. Lauderdale and it was at 6:50 or something.  But we just read and the girls had their iPads and we had an early dinner and it was finally time to board and head home.

Long wait at the airport

There were 19 people in our group all total, including Paul's parents and sisters and a bunch of friends.  It was so fun.  We all did our own thing during the day but we did do a lot of the same excursions, and we were usually with at least a few other people from our group most of the time, and then we would all met up for dinner most nights.  It was great and I'm dying to go on another one.

A Day in My Life

It's time once again for the Multiples and More Question of the Week:  A Day in Your Life. What is your schedule like? Do you work outside the home or stay home with the kids?   I am very blessed to be a SAHM.  Our schedule looks something like this: The girls get up anywhere between 7:20 and 8:20, but usually around 8:00.  Lately I've been letting them watch an episode of Dora so I can get on the computer and check email, Facebook, etc.  Otherwise they just play for an hour or so and then we have breakfast. By the time we're done with breakfast (fixing, eating and cleaning up) it's usually between 9:30 and 10:00.  We get dressed, and then we go wherever we're going that day (errands, park, playdate, etc.).  If it's a stay home day, I'll usually do a DVD workout while they just play upstairs and then we'll go for a walk or play outside after. Lunch is anywhere between 12:00 and 1:00, and nap is 1:30 or 2:00 to 4:00 ...

A Very Belated 2023 Recap

I guess I took a bit of a blogging break.  I only blogged three times last year and this will be my first post so far this year.  I just haven’t been in the mood but now suddenly I am.  We’ll see how long it lasts. Where to even begin?  A lot has happened since I last blogged.  The girls are about to turn 16, have jobs and are on the verge of getting their driver’s licenses.  We took an amazing trip to Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell and Las Vegas last summer.  We celebrated our 17th anniversary and are closing in on our 18th.  We attended some great concerts, did some fun hikes and have had lots of fun date nights, game nights and girl’s/guy’s nights out.  Ok, I guess that’s not all that much but whatever.  So, I guess to start off my 2024 blogging, I will recap 2023: I turned 54 in January. For President's Day weekend we went to Crescent Bar and from there Paul and Kayley went skiing at Mission Ridge and...

Show Us Your Life - Dining Rooms

It's time for this week's Show Us Your Life, brought to you by Kelly's Korner , and this week it's dining rooms. We have a very open floorplan, so when you walk in our front door the dining room is to the right and the living room to the left, with the fireplace straight ahead.  It's basically all one big room.     I bought the table and sideboard at Dania when I bought my first condo back in 2002.  It looked great in that condo, but for this house I wish I had black dining room furniture.  The table and sideboard are the same color as the trim, and then with the white walls (although we finally got one wall painted) it's just so blah.  And like most other rooms in the house, we have yet to hang curtains (not that we're going to hang them in every room, but we have yet to hang any). Looking in from the kitchen.  Need curtains! Looking in from the living room.  Notice the plastic protector underneath, for when the kids throw their sp...
